Liverpool Confirm Ben Doak’s £25m Transfer to Bournemouth

Liverpool have confirmed the departure of Ben Doak, with the 19-year-old forward sealing a permanent move to Bournemouth in a deal worth around £25 million.

Signed from Celtic for just £600,000 in March 2022, Doak made only 10 senior appearances for the Reds but departs having delivered a remarkable return on investment. Turning such a small fee into a sizeable profit has been widely praised as “smart business” by Liverpool’s hierarchy.

Football writer Gregg Evans (The Athletic) described the deal as “shrewd,” noting Doak’s standout performances on loan at Middlesbrough and his eye-catching displays at international level, particularly against Croatia’s Joško Gvardiol. Despite his clear potential, competition for places—especially following Mohamed Salah’s contract renewal last summer—meant regular first-team opportunities at Anfield were always limited.

Liverpool opted to cash in while Doak’s market value was high, with Evans stressing that £25m for a teenager yet to score in a Liverpool shirt represents exceptional value.

For Bournemouth, however, the transfer offers an exciting opportunity. Doak will likely see far more playing time on the south coast under Andoni Iraola, giving him the platform to realise his potential in the Premier League.

The move continues a familiar trend under FSG, who have consistently secured strong fees for players on the fringes of the squad. Just last summer, Liverpool earned more than £50m combined from the sales of Fábio Carvalho and Sepp van den Berg.

Though Doak never quite broke through at Anfield, his reputation has grown significantly since his arrival. Now, the Scottish winger begins a new chapter at Bournemouth, where he has the chance to establish himself as a Premier League regular.

Good luck on the south coast, Ben.
