Exclusive: RB Leipzig preparing Harvey Elliott transfer offer after reaching verbal agreement

RB Leipzig are preparing to escalate their pursuit of Harvey Elliott as the summer transfer window enters its final 12 days. The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has struggled for consistent game time at Liverpool, with reports suggesting he has reluctantly “accepted his fate” that he won’t break into Arne Slot’s preferred starting XI.

Elliott played just six minutes in the Community Shield, where he was denied in the penalty shootout by Dean Henderson, and didn’t feature in the win over Bournemouth—signaling limited prospects under Slot this season.

Leipzig’s Offer and Personal Terms

Sources indicate that RB Leipzig are ready to submit an offer around €30m (£25.9m), while Liverpool value Elliott at €40m (£34.5m). Negotiations are reportedly advanced regarding personal terms, with a verbal agreement in place. Elliott is said to favor the move, which would grant him regular game time, and is expected to sign a four-year deal earning €3m–€4m (£2.6m–£3.4m) per year—an increase on his current salary of just over £2m.

Liverpool’s Dilemma

From Liverpool’s perspective, letting Elliott leave could be a financially sensible decision. They paid Fulham a £1.5m compensation fee in 2019 and additional contingent payments of £2.8m, meaning a €30m–€35m transfer would yield a healthy profit.

However, selling Elliott comes amid a significant thinning of Liverpool’s attacking options this summer. With Luis Diaz, Darwin Nunez, and Ben Gannon Doak already sold—and the earlier loss of Diogo Jota—fans may be concerned about depth in the final third. Signing Alexander Isak could help alleviate this, but Newcastle remain firm on their valuation despite Isak’s public desire to leave.

Liverpool face a tough decision: cash in on Elliott and potentially weaken their attack, or retain him and risk his frustration and lack of playing time. Whatever choice is made, it will be closely scrutinized as the season progresses.
