Liverpool XI vs Newcastle: Predicted lineup, confirmed updates, and injury news ahead of Premier League clash

Liverpool head to St James’ Park tonight with fresh injury concerns as they prepare to face Newcastle United in the Premier League.

Manager Arne Slot has a defensive dilemma after summer signing Jeremie Frimpong picked up a hamstring problem during last weekend’s 6-0 victory over Bournemouth. The right-back will be unavailable for the trip to Tyneside, leaving Slot to weigh his options.

Conor Bradley and Joe Gomez have both returned to training, but neither is fully fit following pre-season injuries. Slot admitted Gomez’s 20-minute cameo against Bournemouth was already “quite a lot” given his limited training time, casting doubt on whether he can start.

As a result, Slot is expected to turn to Wataru Endo as an emergency right-back, with Dominik Szoboszlai more likely to operate in midfield against Newcastle’s powerful engine room. Ryan Gravenberch is available again after suspension and could slot back in alongside Alexis Mac Allister, allowing Szoboszlai to push forward into the No.10 role.

That reshuffle may see new signing Florian Wirtz drop to the bench, while the front three of Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, and Hugo Ekitike should remain unchanged. Ekitike, notably, continues his bright start in Liverpool colours against a club that chased his signature earlier in the transfer window.

Predicted Liverpool XI:
Alisson; Endo, Konaté, van Dijk, Kerkez; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Gakpo; Ekitike

Doubts: Bradley, Gomez
