Isak’s Liverpool Move Complicated by Newcastle Standoff
Alexander Isak’s push to join Liverpool may have backfired, with Newcastle United now even more reluctant to sanction his exit.
The Swedish striker released a social media statement last week accusing Newcastle of breaking “promises” over his future. The club quickly rejected those claims, insisting no agreement to let him leave was ever in place.
According to Craig Hope of the Daily Mail, who spoke on Sky Sports’ Sunday Supplement, Newcastle’s hierarchy have since hardened their position. While a deal in the region of £130m–£150m was previously thought sufficient, Isak’s public remarks appear to have made the Magpies more determined to keep him—unless they can secure attacking reinforcements.
Eddie Howe’s side remain in the market for strikers, having had a second bid for Brentford’s Yoane Wissa turned down. But with the transfer window closing on September 1, the chances of landing two forwards in time are slim.
That leaves Newcastle in a difficult spot: holding onto last season’s top scorer may risk dressing-room unrest, while rejecting a nine-figure offer could prove costly if Isak’s value dips.
For Liverpool, the opportunity is still there—provided they move decisively and are willing to meet Newcastle’s price. With just over a week left, the saga promises more drama before the deadline.
