Manchester City are weighing up a move for Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi, according to fresh reports.
The England international, valued at around £35 million, has less than a year remaining on his deal at Selhurst Park. Palace chairman Steve Parish has already admitted the club may be forced to cash in before the deadline if Guehi refuses to extend his stay — and the defender is said to have no intention of signing new terms.
That stance makes a transfer before next Monday increasingly likely.
Liverpool Lead the Race — But City Could Hijack
Liverpool are currently regarded as front-runners for Guehi, having already opened talks with Palace. However, a sizeable gap remains between the two clubs’ valuations. Tottenham and Barcelona have also been linked, but Jurgen Klopp’s side appear to be pushing hardest.
This uncertainty could leave the door open for City. Pep Guardiola’s champions have reportedly “discussed” joining the race, and may look to exploit any hesitation from their rivals.
City Must Sell Before They Buy
One complication is City’s squad depth. Any formal bid for Guehi is expected to hinge on player departures, with Manuel Akanji attracting interest from Galatasaray and Nathan Ake linked with Everton. Neither deal, however, is close to completion.
Until at least one centre-back leaves, City are unlikely to press ahead. But Guehi’s situation could change rapidly in the final days of the window — meaning Guardiola’s side may need to act fast if they want to jump ahead of Liverpool.
For now, Guehi remains a Palace player, but with the clock ticking and top clubs circling, the next week could decide his future
