Liverpool transfer news: Isak talks confirmed as Reds chase defender signing
Liverpool remain linked with Newcastle striker Alexander Isak, who continues to train separately from the squad amid uncertainty over his future on Tyneside.
Manager Arne Slot has already strengthened his title-winning side by signing Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz, Milos Kerkez and Hugo Ekitike, while goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili has also arrived after finishing his final season with Valencia. The Reds are still keen on adding more players before the deadline.
One target is Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi. Liverpool need cover at centre-back after allowing Jarell Quansah to join Bayer Leverkusen earlier in the summer. Talks were held earlier this month, but negotiations have stalled, with Palace holding out for £45m while Liverpool are reluctant to match the asking price. Guehi is expected to stay with Palace at least until their Europa play-off second leg in Norway on August 28, after which a short window for a deal could open.
Meanwhile, Isak has publicly accused Newcastle of “breaking promises” in a fiery social media post, though the club quickly denied any such assurances were made. Eddie Howe admitted he has spoken to the forward both at the end of last season and on a near-daily basis, but stressed those discussions should remain private.
