Liverpool Table ‘Second Offer’ for Alexander Isak as Reports Claim Newcastle Star Could Be On His Way Out
Liverpool have reportedly returned with a second bid for Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, with claims emerging that the Sweden international “will be leaving” St. James’ Park before the transfer window closes.
According to presenter Richard Keys, the Reds have submitted an improved offer in the region of £140 million (€162m, $190m) after seeing their initial £110m proposal rejected earlier this summer. Newcastle, however, are said to be holding firm publicly, valuing their talisman closer to £150m (€173.8m, $203m).
Isak, who netted 23 goals and six assists in 34 Premier League appearances last season, has reportedly already agreed personal terms with Liverpool and has even stepped away from first-team training under Eddie Howe. Additional reports suggest the forward has vacated his residence in Newcastle, further fueling speculation of an imminent departure.
Fraser Fletcher of TEAMtalk first reported back in July that Isak had informed Newcastle of his desire to join Liverpool, and since then the saga has escalated, with Real Madrid also keeping an eye on developments.
Speaking on beIN Sports, Keys revealed:
“I learned today Liverpool put in a bid of £110m. A second offer has followed — £80m now, plus £60m next season. Madrid are also interested, and I find it hard to believe Isak would take such a risk without being fairly sure he’ll leave before the window shuts.”
Still, these reports should be treated cautiously. No other major outlets have confirmed Liverpool’s alleged second bid, and Eddie Howe has so far only acknowledged the first approach.
Howe, however, has admitted that clarity is needed:
“Nothing has changed. The door is still open. He must decide what he wants to do, and we’d like a resolution soon. Distractions are not helpful.”
Despite missing Newcastle’s opening game of the season against Aston Villa, Howe has left the door ajar for Isak’s return to the squad. But with Liverpool pushing hard and Madrid monitoring from afar, the 25-year-old’s future remains one of the defining stories of this summer’s transfer window.
