Liverpool Close in on Rodrygo in Stunning €100m Deal

Liverpool have pulled off a major coup by securing the signing of Real Madrid winger Rodrygo for around €100 million (£85m), beating out competition from Manchester City and other European giants.

City had agreed a £145m package with Real Madrid, but Rodrygo chose Liverpool instead, drawn by the club’s legacy, passionate fanbase, and Arne Slot’s ambitious vision. The Brazilian has agreed personal terms, with Real Madrid including a buy-back clause in the deal. He is expected to play a central role under Slot and could eventually succeed Mohamed Salah in the frontline.

Rodrygo’s departure follows Real Madrid’s acquisition of Kylian Mbappé, which forced the Spanish champions to balance their squad. His pace, skill, finishing ability and versatility across the front three make him a natural fit for Liverpool’s system.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano recently stressed that Manchester City’s pursuit of Rodrygo hinged on Savinho’s future. While Romano didn’t mention Liverpool, the Reds’ aggressive summer spending—backed by their £110m bid for Alexander Isak and Luis Díaz’s £65.5m sale to Bayern—shows they had the financial muscle to step in.

The move raises questions over Liverpool’s long-term plan for 16-year-old prodigy Rio Ngumoha, who has been promised a pathway into the first team. Rodrygo prefers to operate on the left, the same position Ngumoha is expected to develop in, though his versatility across the frontline may ease the clash.

If Liverpool also manage to secure Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace before the window closes, this summer could go down as one of the most transformative in the club’s history.
