Crystal Palace Boss Oliver Glasner Blocks Liverpoolβs Move for Marc Guehi
Crystal Palace manager Oliver Glasner has made it clear he does not want to lose captain Marc Guehi before the transfer window closes, urging the clubβs hierarchy to reject Liverpoolβs advances. With just four days remaining until deadline day, Glasner is determined to keep the England international at Selhurst Park.
Liverpool opened talks to sign the 24-year-old centre-back earlier this month but have so far failed to meet Palaceβs Β£40 million valuation. Sources suggest the Reds are confident they can negotiate a lower fee given Guehi is entering the final year of his contract. Chairman Steve Parish is aware of the financial risk, with the defender potentially leaving on a free next summer.
Guehi played in Palaceβs 0-0 draw against Norwegian side Fredrikstad, securing their place in the Conference League group stage. Glasner, however, has publicly contradicted Parishβs stance, warning that replacing Guehi at this stage of the market would be βnearly impossible.β
βItβs Friday now, and the window closes on Mondayβhe must stay,β Glasner said. βHeβs our captain, an England international, and the most experienced defender in the squad. Our recent success and clean sheets are built around him.β
When asked about Guehiβs commitment amid transfer speculation, Glasner added: βIf Marc had wanted to leave, the deal would already be done. Heβs focused, dedicated, and giving everything for the team.β
Palace have explored potential replacements, including Manchester Cityβs Manuel Akanji, Monacoβs Mohammed Salisu, Rennesβ Jeremy Jacquet, and Toulouseβs Jaydee Canvot, though Glasner is unconvinced any could match Guehiβs immediate impact.
Still, the final decision may rest with the board. After Palaceβs 1-0 win over Fredrikstad, Parish commented: βIf Marc wants to sign a new contract, he can stay. Itβs a complicated situation and one weβll address in the coming days.β
With Liverpool pushing to reinforce their defense and Palace desperate to hold onto their captain, the battle for Guehi looks set to dominate the final days of the transfer window.
