Barcelona Manager Hansi Flick to Miss Champions League Opener vs Newcastle
Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick will be absent from the touchline when his side faces Newcastle United in their Champions League opener at St James’ Park on September 18.
The German tactician is serving a suspension carried over from last season’s semi-final clash against Inter Milan, as confirmed ahead of the fixture.
In Flick’s absence, assistant coaches Arnau Blanco or Toni Tapalovic are expected to take charge, with Marcus Sorg also unavailable due to suspension.
Despite the setback, Barcelona remain fully focused on what promises to be a high-stakes start to their European campaign.
The Catalan giants’ group stage journey begins with the trip to Newcastle, followed by home games against PSG (October 1) and Olympiacos (October 21). They will also face Brugge, Chelsea, Frankfurt, Slavia Praha, and Copenhagen in a challenging group schedule.
