Liverpool Agree £35m Deal for Marc Guehi
Liverpool have reached an agreement with Crystal Palace to sign England defender Marc Guehi in a deal worth £35 million.
The 24-year-old centre-back has been one of the standout performers in the Premier League over the past two seasons, impressing with his composure on the ball, aerial strength, and leadership qualities. His consistent displays for Palace also earned him a regular spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad, including a key role at Euro 2024.
Liverpool have been in the market for defensive reinforcements this summer, with Arne Slot keen to strengthen his backline following the departures of Joel Matip and the need to provide long-term competition for Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté. Guehi is seen as the ideal fit — young, homegrown, and already proven at the highest level.
Negotiations with Palace accelerated in recent days, and the clubs have now settled on a fee in the region of £35m. Personal terms are not expected to be an obstacle, with Guehi eager to make the step up to Champions League football at Anfield.
His arrival is being hailed as a statement signing by Liverpool supporters, who view him as part of the club’s defensive future. Guehi’s ability to play on the left side of central defence also provides tactical balance, something Slot has been eager to address.
Palace, meanwhile, are preparing to reinvest the funds, but losing their defensive leader is a significant blow.
The deal is expected to be finalised shortly, with Guehi undergoing a medical ahead of an official announcement.
