Liverpool Smash British Transfer Record to Sign Alexander Isak from Newcastle
Liverpool have officially completed the British-record signing of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United in a deal worth £125 million.
The 24-year-old Sweden international, long identified as Arne Slot’s top target, has signed a six-year contract at Anfield. The final package will see Newcastle receive £130m, as Isak agreed to waive his solidarity payment to push the deal through.
A Saga That Shook Newcastle
Liverpool had an initial £110m bid rejected earlier in the summer, with Eddie Howe insistent that Isak was not for sale. But the striker forced the issue, refusing to train or play while accusing Newcastle of breaking promises in a public statement earlier this month.
That stance left the Magpies with little choice, and the deal was confirmed in the early hours of Deadline Day, making Isak the most expensive signing in Premier League history.
Slot’s New-Look Champions
The signing of Isak is Liverpool’s second record-breaking deal of the summer, following their £116m swoop for Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.
The Reds have also reinforced heavily with the arrivals of:
- Jeremie Frimpong
- Milos Kerkez
- Giorgi Mamardashvili
- Hugo Ekitike
- Giovanni Leoni
Meanwhile, Marc Guehi is expected to complete his switch from Crystal Palace after passing a medical on Deadline Day.
“Best Striker in the World”
Isak, hailed by many as “the best striker in the world”, was determined to secure the move to Anfield. His arrival adds firepower to a Liverpool side already defending their Premier League crown, and marks another statement of intent from Slot’s ambitious rebuild.
