Liverpool Complete Signing of Alexander Isak in £125m Deal from Newcastle

Liverpool Smash Transfer Record to Sign Alexander Isak

Liverpool have officially confirmed the signing of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United in a British-record transfer.

The Sweden international had been Arne Slot’s number-one attacking target this summer as the Premier League champions looked to reinforce their frontline. Isak has penned a six-year contract at Anfield, with Liverpool paying Newcastle £125m. After the striker waived a solidarity payment, the Magpies’ total earnings from the deal rise to £130m.

Dubbed by some as “the best striker in the world,” Isak was determined to secure his dream move to Merseyside. Earlier in the window, he requested permission to explore options away from St. James’ Park. Liverpool initially saw a £110m bid rejected, with Eddie Howe’s side insisting he was not for sale.

However, the 24-year-old forced the issue by refusing to train or feature for Newcastle, later releasing a public statement accusing the club of breaking promises — a stance that made his departure inevitable.

Isak will wear Liverpool’s iconic No. 9 shirt and, after finalizing the deal, gave his first interview to the club’s official website, expressing his delight at joining the Reds.

Remarkably, this is Liverpool’s second record-breaking signing of the summer. The club previously paid £116m to bring German star Florian Wirtz from Bayer Leverkusen.

Isak joins a wave of new arrivals under Slot, including Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Hugo Ekitike, and Giovanni Leoni. The squad overhaul may not be finished yet, with Crystal Palace’s Marc Guehi expected to arrive following a Deadline Day medical.
