Hugo Ekitike Reacts to Alexander Isak Arrival Amid Liverpool Fears

Hugo Ekitike has responded to Liverpool’s ÂŁ130 million capture of Alexander Isak in a positive way after the deadline day deal took Liverpool’s spending to ÂŁ446 million.

Alexander Isak has finally secured his long-desired move to Liverpool, signing a six-year contract on deadline day after Newcastle United agreed to a British-record transfer fee. His departure followed weeks of tension, during which the striker refused to play and accused the Magpies of breaking promises in a strongly worded statement.

Newcastle responded swiftly, bringing in Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa to fill the gap left by their talisman. Ironically, Isak now joins Hugo Ekitike at Anfield — a player Newcastle had previously failed to sign.

Ekitike, who arrived earlier in the window for £69 million, made a flying start with three goals in his first three Premier League appearances. But Isak’s arrival has sparked debate over whether the Frenchman might lose his spot in Arne Slot’s starting XI. Some speculate the manager could experiment with a front two, or perhaps use Ekitike on the left in rotation with Cody Gakpo.

The player himself, though, seems unfazed. Fresh from earning a France call-up, Ekitike showed support by liking Isak’s social media post announcing his Liverpool switch — a gesture that caught the attention of fans.

For Isak, joining Liverpool marks the fulfilment of a dream. “It is an honour and a privilege to sign for Liverpool, and I can’t wait to get going,” he said. In another post, he thanked Newcastle for his three years on Tyneside, where he played a central role in ending the club’s 70-year trophy drought and helping them qualify for the Champions League.

“I want to express my gratitude to my teammates, the staff, and above all the city of Newcastle and the amazing supporters for three unforgettable years,” Isak wrote alongside a montage of his highlights. “Together we made history, from reaching the Champions League to winning the first trophy in over 70 years. I will always be grateful. Thank you, Newcastle.”

Newcastle United released a notably blunt statement confirming Alexander Isak’s move to Liverpool — one that omitted any mention of his impressive goal record and stopped short of wishing him well for the future.

“Newcastle United can announce the sale of striker Alexander Isak to Liverpool for a significant British-record transfer fee,” the club wrote. “The Sweden international joined the Magpies from Real Sociedad in 2022 and made 109 appearances in all competitions.”

The terse announcement stood in stark contrast to Isak’s own heartfelt farewell message, in which he thanked teammates, staff, and fans while reflecting proudly on his role in ending Newcastle’s 70-year trophy drought.

Isak is expected to make his Liverpool debut after the international break, with a potential first appearance coming against Burnley on September 13.
