Marc Guehi has reportedly made a decision on his Crystal Palace future after a deadline day move to Liverpool fell through.
Liverpool’s Deadline Day Chaos Ends in Guehi Disappointment as Bayern Circle
Reigning Premier League champions Liverpool were at the heart of one of the busiest transfer deadline days in recent memory on Monday.
After smashing the British transfer record with the £125 million signing of Alexander Isak from Newcastle United, many expected the Reds’ business to be complete. But Arne Slot was determined to strengthen his defence, with Crystal Palace captain Marc Guehi identified as the priority target.
Liverpool agreed a £35 million fee with Palace and the England international was granted permission to undergo a medical. However, in dramatic late fashion, the deal collapsed when Palace pulled the plug after failing to secure a replacement.
The fallout has been significant. Reports suggest Guehi was left “unhappy” with the decision, and the 25-year-old has since made it clear he will not extend his contract at Selhurst Park. That stance means Palace now risk losing their skipper for free when his current deal expires at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.
According to talkSPORT, Liverpool will remain firmly in the race for Guehi’s signature, but they are not alone. Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are among the clubs monitoring the situation ahead of a potential free transfer next summer.
In the meantime, Guehi continues to play a crucial role under Oliver Glasner, most recently capping a strong display with a superb goal in Palace’s 3-0 victory over Aston Villa in the Premier League.
What looked like Liverpool’s final big move of the summer may now become one of the transfer sagas of next year — with Guehi’s future set to attract serious interest across Europe.
Glasner Stands Firm on Guehi Exit Rumours
Speaking after Crystal Palace’s 3-0 win over Aston Villa, Oliver Glasner made it crystal clear that selling Marc Guehi on deadline day was never an option.
“I told the chairman we have to keep Marc if we want to play a successful season,” the Austrian said. “We had no chance to find the right replacement in one day. We all agreed that we would only sell Marc if the right replacement was already in the building.”
Glasner revealed that the plan had been to line up cover well before the end of the summer window:
“We wanted a replacement by 1 July. It is 31 August and we have no replacement. We had this agreement, so for me it was clear. He is such a crucial player — one of our key players, and he is our captain.”
Guehi, meanwhile, has linked up with England duty ahead of fixtures against Andorra and Serbia, where he will continue to play under Thomas Tuchel during the international break.
