Liverpool Face New Threat as Third Club Target Marc Guehi Free Deal

Marc Guehi will not be short of suitors for his services next summer as it appears a third European giant has joined the race to sign him after his deadline day transfer to Liverpool failed to materialise.

Crystal Palace captain and England international defender, 25, was on the verge of joining Liverpool on deadline day, with his contract at Selhurst Park entering its final year.

Liverpool and Palace had reached an agreement on a £35m deal plus add-ons, and Guehi seemed close to a switch to the Premier League champions.

But the transfer fell through when Palace were unable to secure a replacement for him.

Guehi, who arrived from Chelsea in the summer of 2021 for around £18m, has since made 162 appearances and scored nine goals for Palace.

Guehi was a key member of the Palace side that lifted the FA Cup last season and also defeated Liverpool in the Community Shield to start the current campaign.

After his proposed transfer to Anfield fell through, he remains at Palace and, with his contract set to expire next summer, could leave on a free.

Palace’s final opportunity to secure a transfer fee for him will come in the upcoming January window.

Guehi is expected to attract plenty of interest next summer as a free agent, having made it clear he does not intend to sign a new contract at Selhurst Park.

This guarantees the England international will move on, with Liverpool still keen and aiming to complete a deal at the second attempt.

However, several top European clubs are also in the running. According to the Daily Express, Bayern Munich have joined Real Madrid and Barcelona in tracking the defender, while Italian sides Juventus and Inter Milan are also reportedly interested.

European clubs hold a significant advantage over Liverpool, as they will be able to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with Guehi from January 1, giving them the chance to secure his signature before any potential move within the Premier League.
