Liverpool in fierce race for Marc Guéhi as transfer battle intensifies

Marc Guéhi’s time at Crystal Palace appears to be nearing its end, with sources close to the player’s representatives suggesting a January departure is now highly likely.

The 25-year-old England international, widely regarded as one of the most dependable centre-backs in the Premier League, is entering the final stretch of his contract and has already informed Palace he will not be signing an extension.

Guéhi came close to an exit in the summer, when Liverpool all but secured his signature. The Reds were ready to pay around £35 million, personal terms had been settled, and the defender even completed a medical. However, the deal collapsed at the eleventh hour, leaving both sides disappointed.

That move could be revived in January. Palace, previously holding firm, have relaxed their stance. After rejecting a €60 million offer from Newcastle earlier this year, the Eagles are now willing to let him go for roughly £25 million to avoid losing him for nothing when his contract runs out.

Liverpool remain in the frame, but they won’t be alone in the chase. Bayern Munich are monitoring him as a budget-friendly defensive reinforcement, while Juventus and Real Madrid could seek a pre-contract agreement in January to sign him for free next summer.

Premier League competition is also looming. Chelsea may explore bringing their former academy product back to Stamford Bridge if Axel Disasi’s future becomes uncertain, and Manchester City are keeping tabs as they look to strengthen their defensive depth.

Guéhi has been clear in his desire for a fresh challenge, and with Palace resigned to his departure, a cut-price winter move looks increasingly set to draw his Selhurst Park spell to a close.
