Federico Chiesa Handed Liverpool Exit Route After Champions League Squad Omission

Federico Chiesa has been offered a surprise exit route from Liverpool after being left out of their Champions League squad.

Italian winger Federico Chiesa was heavily linked with a move away from Liverpool during the summer transfer window but ultimately remained at Anfield.

He opened his Premier League account on the first day of the season, coming off the bench to score in a 4-2 win over Bournemouth. The 27-year-old has since featured as a late substitute in victories over Newcastle and Arsenal.

However, Chiesa was left out of Liverpool’s Champions League squad, which was submitted last Thursday. UEFA’s restrictions on non-homegrown players meant he was sacrificed in favour of 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha, who is not yet classed as homegrown under the rules. That omission has fueled fresh speculation about his future.

While transfer windows are now closed across Europe’s top five leagues, Turkey remains an exception, with clubs able to register new players until September 11. According to Fabrizio Romano, Besiktas have contacted Liverpool about Chiesa’s availability.

Turkish clubs have been active in the market—Trabzonspor finalised a loan deal for Manchester United’s Andre Onana, while Galatasaray secured Ilkay Gundogan from Manchester City. Besiktas, who recently parted ways with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer after missing out on Champions League qualification, are also exploring their options.

Romano reports that Besiktas have funds available but Liverpool are unwilling to let Chiesa leave on loan. Speaking on his YouTube channel, he said:
“Besiktas, in the last 24 to 48 hours, tried to call about Federico Chiesa to understand the situation at Liverpool. At the moment, negotiations are not advanced—it’s not something concrete yet—but they made a call.”
