Messi recommends two blockbuster signings to Barcelona for a return to the top of Europe

Barcelona is determined to compete for every trophy this season and is taking calculated steps to strengthen the squad, aiming for the perfect balance between attack and defense. With president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco leading the effort, the club continues to target top-level players who can help restore its dominance in major competitions.

Even from afar, Lionel Messi remains a constant supporter of his former club. Now playing in MLS with Inter Miami, the Argentine legend maintains regular contact with Laporta and Deco, offering guidance and recommendations on potential signings that could elevate Barcelona’s squad.

Among Messi’s top suggestions is Manchester City striker Julián Álvarez, whom he sees as a natural successor to Robert Lewandowski should the Polish striker leave at the end of the season. Messi’s close bond with Álvarez, forged through their time with Argentina and mutual respect at the club level, has reinforced his belief that the young forward could thrive at Camp Nou.

Messi has also turned Barcelona’s attention to the defensive line, urging the club to consider Manchester United center-back Lisandro Martínez. With Iñigo Martínez’s departure to Saudi side Al-Nassr leaving a gap at the back, Messi believes Lisandro could provide the stability and leadership needed in defense—especially as coach Hans-Dieter Flick remains unconvinced by Christensen and Araújo as a pairing.

Still, Barcelona’s management continues to prioritize Inter Milan defender Alessandro Bastoni as their first-choice signing for the defense. Should that deal prove financially out of reach, Lisandro Martínez remains a strong alternative, albeit a more expensive one.

As the club works to reinforce both ends of the pitch, Messi’s voice carries significant weight in shaping its transfer strategy. His recommendations reflect not only his loyalty to Barcelona but also his desire to see the team return to European glory with a squad built for success.
