Arsenal fans have been reacting on social media after watching one player’s performance against Nottingham Forest
On Saturday afternoon, Premier League action resumed at the Emirates Stadium as Arsenal faced Nottingham Forest.
The Gunners struck first in the 32nd minute when Martin Zubimendi produced a stunning volley to put them ahead. Less than a minute into the second half, Viktor Gyökeres doubled the lead, and Zubimendi later sealed the win with a header in the 79th minute to make it 3-0.
Mikel Arteta’s side comfortably saw out the match, securing three points that sent them to the top of the Premier League table ahead of Liverpool’s clash with Burnley on Sunday.
While the goalscorers took the headlines, much of the post-match conversation among Arsenal fans centered on summer signing Noni Madueke. The winger, who arrived from rivals Chelsea, had initially divided opinion among supporters. However, his display against Forest—where he spearheaded most of Arsenal’s attacking play—won over many of his critics.
On social media, fans lined up to praise him, with one writing: “Noni Madueke!!! What a signing. Arsenal fans should issue a public apology. He stepped into Saka’s role and delivered brilliantly.”
Another added: “Madueke deserves an apology from all Arsenal fans.”
Others echoed the sentiment: “Many people owe Madueke an apology. AFTV and football Twitter aren’t exactly reliable scouts,” while another wrote: “Everyone who doubted Noni Madueke should issue a textbook apology.”
One fan summed it up: “If you opposed Madueke’s signing, I want to see your public apology… now, please.”
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, former England and Manchester City captain Steph Houghton reflected on the game, saying: “This has been more about Arsenal than Forest. Eberechi Eze has been fantastic, offering something different, and you can see Noni Madueke’s confidence is sky-high.”
Ex-Wales international Danny Gabbidon echoed the praise for Madueke: “Plenty of Arsenal fans questioned that transfer, but right now Noni Madueke looks electric. He’s unpredictable—happy to go down the right just as much as cutting inside on his left. From a defender’s perspective, that’s tough to deal with. He’s been a real handful.”
Arsenal’s focus now shifts to Europe, with Mikel Arteta’s men set to open their Champions League campaign on Tuesday night against Athletic Club.
