Liverpool Plan Next Big Signing After Isak With January Deal Possible

Liverpool are reportedly lining up another big-money move ahead of the January transfer window.

Liverpool eye Palace star Adam Wharton after record summer spending

Liverpool invested heavily in the summer transfer window, bringing in marquee names such as Alexander Isak, Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Milos Kerkez, Jeremie Frimpong, Giovanni Leoni, Armin Pecsi, and goalkeeper Freddie Woodman.

Despite the spending spree — which exceeded €450 million — the Reds fell short of one last addition on deadline day, with Crystal Palace pulling the plug on a deal for Marc Guehi at the final moment.

Looking ahead, reports suggest Arne Slot is already targeting his next signing, with midfield prodigy Adam Wharton high on Liverpool’s shortlist.

According to journalist Dave Ockop, the Premier League champions hold genuine interest in the 21-year-old, and while several top clubs are monitoring his situation, Wharton himself is believed to favour a move to Anfield.

Real Madrid are also thought to be tracking the England international, with any deal expected to exceed £60 million. A January move remains possible, though much will depend on Liverpool’s approach to the winter market.

Wharton has been outstanding since joining Palace from Blackburn Rovers in early 2024. His breakthrough year saw him earn a senior England debut in June before being named in Gareth Southgate’s squad for Euro 2024.

Since arriving at Selhurst Park, Wharton has already made 49 appearances, quickly establishing himself as one of the Premier League’s brightest young midfielders.

Speaking on Liverpool’s summer business, Arne Slot said:

“This is the model we follow at the club, the model our ownership has in place. Credit has to go not just to them, but also to Richard, Michael, and everyone involved in this transfer window — they deserve a huge compliment for the work they’ve done.

We’ve traded a lot of players, generated our own budget through sales and by winning the league, and with that we’ve been able to bring in younger players than the ones who left. That means we’re not only strengthening for now but also building for the future. And the fact that everyone is talking about the players we signed rather than the ones we sold — that’s the biggest compliment we could receive.”
