Manchester United fans have been reacting on social media after seeing what Amad Diallo did with Alejandro Garnacho following the Chelsea match.
On Saturday evening, Manchester United claimed a vital 2-1 win over Chelsea at Old Trafford, easing pressure in their 25/26 campaign.
The game had drama from the outset. Chelsea were reduced to 10 men just five minutes in when Robert Sánchez brought down Bryan Mbeumo. United capitalized quickly, with Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro giving them a 2-0 lead. However, Casemiro’s dismissal before half-time gave Chelsea a lifeline. The visitors pressed hard in the second half, pulling one back through Trevoh Chalobah in the 80th minute, but Ruben Amorim’s side held firm to secure a much-needed victory that lifted them into 10th place in the Premier League.
After the match, United winger Amad sparked debate online when he shared a photo alongside former teammate Alejandro Garnacho, who had left for Chelsea in the summer. The pair posed holding each other’s shirts, a gesture of friendship that split fan opinion.
Some supporters criticized the timing, with one writing: “We should stop doing this, there’s no friends before and after the game.” Another called it “not a good look Amad,” while a third joked: “Nice! Tell Chelsea to take him next.” Others were more forgiving, with one fan defending the post: “You lot need to let it go. It’s not that deep—they’re close friends.”
By Sunday morning, Amad appeared to react to the backlash, deleting the Garnacho story and wiping all posts from his Instagram account. The move has only fueled further speculation among fans about his mindset after what should have been a celebratory evening.
Despite Chelsea chasing the game at Old Trafford, head coach Enzo Maresca opted not to introduce Alejandro Garnacho in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat to Manchester United. Instead, youngster Tyrique George was brought on as Chelsea pushed for an equaliser.
Speaking after the match, Maresca addressed the decision and revealed that Garnacho had been prepared to come on. However, an unexpected request from defender Wesley Fofana forced a change of plans.
“Garnacho was ready to go on, but then Wes \[Fofana] asked for the change, because he was tired after a long time,” Maresca explained. “So we changed and we decided to go for Malo Gusto. The idea had been to give Garnacho minutes.”
The Argentine, who returned to Old Trafford for the first time since his summer move to Chelsea, remained an unused substitute. Fans will now be watching closely to see if Maresca hands him a bigger role in the coming fixtures.
