Woeful’ – Slot Must Drop £150kp/w Liverpool Dud Who Was Rubbish vs Everton

Liverpool claimed bragging rights in the first Merseyside derby of the new Premier League season, edging Everton 2-1 at Anfield.

Arne Slot’s side came into the clash on a perfect run, fresh from a Champions League win over Atlético Madrid, while Everton arrived in good form themselves, sitting sixth with seven points from their opening four games.

The Reds wasted little time asserting control. Mohamed Salah slipped a clever pass into Ryan Gravenberch, who finished neatly inside ten minutes. Before half-time, Hugo Ekitike doubled the lead, calmly slotting through Jordan Pickford’s legs to put Liverpool firmly in charge.

Everton’s Idrissa Gueye pulled one back just before the hour mark, but despite a tense finish, Liverpool held firm to secure three more points and extend their 100% start, remaining top of the table for at least another week.

Gakpo’s Struggles

Not every Liverpool player shone, however. Cody Gakpo endured a frustrating afternoon, managing just one off-target shot while losing possession 11 times, being dribbled past twice, and conceding a foul.

His poor showing saw Slot substitute him on the hour mark for Florian Wirtz. With both Wirtz and record signing Alexander Isak pushing for starting spots, Gakpo’s form has left him vulnerable to losing his place.

Despite the Reds’ perfect record, performances have been uneven at times. For Liverpool to reach their full potential, the underperformers may need to step aside—Gakpo chief among them.

Fan Backlash

Supporters didn’t hold back, voicing their frustration with the Dutchman throughout and after the match.

  • “Slot needs to deal with the elephant in the room at some point (Gakpo).”
  • “Gakpo is upsetting to watch this season, what happened?”
  • “Alexis and Gakpo have been absolutely woeful today.”
  • “Gakpo already ruined about 3 attacks.”
  • “Gakpo is so predictable, change it up a little brother. Everyone knows your move.”
  • “Gakpo so awful today…”
  • “Gakpo, absolutely shocking again.”

The reaction makes clear that patience is wearing thin. With tough fixtures ahead, Slot may soon have to make a decisive call on Gakpo’s place in his lineup.
