Marcus Rashford has responded after being dropped from the Barcelona side that faced Getafe by Hansi Flick for breaking club protocol.
Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford announced himself at Barcelona last week with a brilliant brace at St James’ Park, marking his first Champions League goals of the campaign.
After the game, Rashford spoke to TNT Sports, sharing his delight at the new chapter in Spain:
“My role here is simple – to help the team win while pushing myself to become the best version of me. It’s an incredible experience. I’ve always admired Barcelona, and like many from my generation, I grew up watching them play.”
Despite his strong start, the forward was left out of the starting XI against Getafe after reportedly turning up late to a team meeting on Sunday, according to journalist Fernando Polo.
Manager Hansi Flick, known for his strict discipline, has made it clear that punctuality is non-negotiable and that players who arrive late will face consequences.
Rashford, however, responded positively. Coming off the bench, the England international set up Dani Olmo for Barcelona’s third goal, capping off a convincing 3-0 win.
After the match, Rashford celebrated the result on Instagram, posting: “+3 points. Let’s go team.
The 27-year-old also shared a game photo on his Instagram story, paired with the iconic Jaws theme music—hinting that he sees this as just the beginning of his journey.
Although Flick opted to leave him out of Sunday’s starting lineup, the Barcelona boss has spoken glowingly about his new signing and admitted he was determined to secure the deal.
“When the opportunity came up, we said, ‘We have to make this happen,’” Flick told reporters.
“I spoke to him beforehand to make sure everything was moving in the right direction. I told him, ‘I want you here, I want you in my team.’ I’m absolutely delighted, because he’s a fantastic player.”
