Liverpool took to social media after Mohamed Salah finished in a disappointing fourth place in the 2025 Ballon d’Or rankings.
Ousmane Dembele Wins 2025 Ballon d’Or as Mohamed Salah Finishes Fourth
On Monday night, the world of football turned its eyes to the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, where some of the game’s biggest names gathered for the 2025 Ballon d’Or ceremony.
Barcelona’s Aitana Bonmatí continued her dominance by securing the women’s prize for the third consecutive year. Then came the men’s award, where Paris Saint-Germain star Ousmane Dembele—the pre-event favourite—was crowned winner, beating out Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and PSG teammate Vitinha.
Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah, who had a remarkable 2024/25 campaign with 57 goal contributions, narrowly missed the podium, finishing fourth. Despite being tipped as one of the frontrunners, the Egyptian was not in attendance. Representing Liverpool in Paris were captain Virgil van Dijk, goalkeeper Alisson Becker, and manager Arne Slot.
After Salah’s placement was confirmed, Liverpool paid tribute to their talisman on social media, posting:
“A season to savour from Salah,”
alongside a gallery of the 33-year-old in action.

Dembele’s Reaction
Speaking after lifting the prestigious trophy, Dembele reflected on the journey that led him to this moment:
“I thank everyone at PSG. President Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Luis Enrique are both like fathers to me. I also thank all the clubs I’ve played for—Rennes, Dortmund, and Barcelona—where I was fortunate to share the pitch with legends like Andrés Iniesta and Lionel Messi.
The Ballon d’Or was never my career goal, but winning it is extraordinary. My focus was helping the team win the Champions League, and to be rewarded with this honour makes me very happy tonight.”
With his triumph, Dembele becomes the latest name etched into football history, cementing a season to remember for both himself and PSG.
