Jamie Carragher admits Liverpool miss Trent Alexander-Arnold amid £116m ‘replacement’ Florian Wirtz’s struggles

Carragher: Liverpool Missing Trent’s Influence as Wirtz Struggles to Settle

Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher has admitted that the Reds are feeling the absence of Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose unique influence from right-back has been impossible to replicate.

Speaking on Liverpool’s recent performances, Carragher underlined that Alexander-Arnold is far more than a defender:

“He’s Liverpool’s playmaker from deep, the one who dictates tempo and unlocks defenses. Without him, the team looks less fluid and their rhythm is disrupted.”

The former defender noted that Liverpool’s £116 million summer signing Florian Wirtz was brought in to ease the creative burden, but the 21-year-old has struggled to adapt to the Premier League’s pace and physicality. While Wirtz has produced flashes of quality, Carragher suggested the hefty price tag has only heightened scrutiny on his slow start.

Still, the Sky Sports pundit urged patience, insisting time is on Wirtz’s side. But he made it clear that Liverpool’s identity remains tied to Alexander-Arnold’s presence on the pitch.

“Liverpool won’t fully look themselves until Trent is back orchestrating from the right,” Carragher concluded.
