Palmer out due to groin injury, providing a lift for Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.

Liverpool’s clash with Chelsea has gained even more importance after Enzo Maresca confirmed that Cole Palmer will miss the match due to a groin injury.

The Chelsea boss admitted that Palmer, one of his most influential attackers, will be sidelined until after the international break — a major blow to the Blues’ attacking threat at Stamford Bridge.

Explaining the decision, Maresca said: “We chose to protect Cole by resting him for two to three weeks so the injury doesn’t worsen. This way, he can fully recover over the break.” He stressed that surgery won’t be required, adding that the club is taking a cautious approach to manage the pain.

Without Palmer, Chelsea lose their main creative outlet and set-piece specialist. On top of that, Liam Delap, Wesley Fofana, Levi Colwill, Tosin Adarabioyo, and Dario Essugo are all unavailable, while Trevoh Chalobah is suspended — leaving the squad stretched thin.

This situation could open the door for Liverpool to take advantage, especially after back-to-back defeats to Crystal Palace and Galatasaray, which exposed the need for a strong comeback.

Arne Slot’s side must respond in London. Mohamed Salah, who started on the bench in Istanbul, is expected to return to the XI, and reinforcements may also come with Hugo Ekitike and Federico Chiesa reportedly close to fitness.

Chelsea’s weakened midfield will be under heavy pressure, and Liverpool will likely look to dominate that area. With Alexander Isak pushing for a starting role as well, this match presents the perfect chance to reset momentum.

Slot’s Liverpool has shown resilience before, and against an injury-hit Chelsea, this fixture could be the ideal platform to bounce back.
