Chelsea lose key players to injury at worst moment after strong performance against Liverpool

Chelsea’s Nightmare Scenario Against Liverpool 😬

The worst possible outcome for Chelsea in their match against Liverpool has sadly come true — more defensive injuries.

Already stretched thin at the back, Chelsea entered the game without Trevoh Chalobah (suspended), Levi Colwill (out for the season), and both Tosin Adarabioyo and Wesley Fofana (still sidelined until after the international break). Benoît Badiashile had only just returned from a long-term issue and was rushed into the starting lineup out of necessity.

But things went from bad to worse.
First, Badiashile had to come off injured, and just ten minutes later, Josh Acheampong—filling in admirably in central defence—went down in pain as well. He was replaced by Jorrel Hato around the hour mark.

Both defenders had been performing impressively, keeping Liverpool’s attack relatively quiet and showing great composure. It’s cruel luck, especially for Acheampong, who recently missed a game against Lincoln due to illness and was eager to make an impact today.

Now, Chelsea will anxiously await manager Enzo Maresca’s post-match update to learn the extent of both players’ injuries. Early signs suggest Badiashile’s might be the more serious.

With the international break ahead, there’s at least a two-week window for recovery — but this string of injuries could hardly have come at a worse time for Maresca and his already depleted squad.
