⚡ EXCLUSIVE: Dion Dublin Warns Liverpool That Manchester United Are “Due” a Big Win Ahead of Anfield Showdown

Former England striker Dion Dublin has fired a warning to Liverpool ahead of their clash with Manchester United, insisting his old club are “due” a major victory that could reshape their season.

Speaking exclusively before Sunday’s heated Northwest derby, the BBC pundit admitted he still expects Arne Slot’s men to stay strong in the Premier League title race — but says United could spring a surprise at Anfield.

“Liverpool, be cautious – it’s going to be tight,” Dublin said. “United are overdue for a very effective, winning performance. This rivalry is unpredictable — it can go either way.”

Liverpool head into the game on the back of three straight defeats before the international break, while Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United remain winless away from home this season, sitting 10th in the table as the Portuguese coach approaches his first anniversary in charge.

Despite a public vote of confidence from co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, United’s inconsistency continues to frustrate fans. However, Dublin believes the derby could become a turning point.

“Liverpool have dominated United for years,” he said. “But this is tribal — one of those matches that can flip. Liverpool might not be at their best, but they have world-class players. If they click, nobody can touch them. I just hope they don’t find that rhythm on Sunday!”

United were humiliated 7–0 in their last trip to Anfield under Erik ten Hag in March 2023 but have since managed two draws in their visits. Dublin believes a victory this time could transform their mindset.

“Beating Liverpool would be massive mentally,” he explained. “It would give the squad belief and unity. You’ve just beaten one of the best teams in world football — that’s a statement moment. From there, you can push on.”

After finishing 15th last season and suffering an embarrassing Carabao Cup exit to Grimsby, United’s expectations have shifted.

“For Manchester United, a top-four finish is non-negotiable,” Dublin added. “They should always be fighting for the title and for Europe. Given where they are, securing European football would be a decent outcome.”

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s title defence began in blistering form with five consecutive league wins, but Arsenal overtook them before the break. Both clubs invested heavily over the summer, setting up what looks to be one of the tightest title races in years.

“It’s not just about Liverpool and Arsenal,” Dublin continued. “City are frustrated and hungry, Chelsea are improving — it’s wide open. But if Liverpool find their rhythm again, they’ll be incredibly hard to stop.”

As the Premier League’s fiercest rivalry returns to Anfield, the message from Dublin is clear: Liverpool might be favourites, but Manchester United are “due” a moment to remember.
