Hansi Flick drops a bombshell at Barcelona: Haaland and Álvarez ruled out, sticking with a shocking option to succeed Lewandowski

Robert Lewandowski’s contract with Barcelona is set to expire at the end of the current season, and growing reports suggest it will not be renewed. This development raises serious questions about the future of the club’s attacking options. The Polish striker, who has recently lost his starting place to Ferran Torres, appears increasingly likely to depart — and possibly even retire — putting added pressure on the club’s management and coaching staff to secure a capable replacement.

Barcelona now faces a critical decision: should they place their trust in Ferran Torres as the main striker despite the lack of depth behind him, or should they enter the transfer market in search of a new number nine — a move that could bring significant financial and logistical challenges?

According to German reports, Barcelona has identified a prime target. Head coach Hansi Flick has urged the club to focus on Borussia Dortmund’s prolific forward Serhou Guirassy. The Guinean international, who scored 38 goals this season and famously netted a hat-trick against Barcelona last year, has emerged as a strong candidate. His transfer fee could reach €100 million, though Dortmund might be willing to lower the price to around €65 million if a major club comes forward.

Barcelona’s search doesn’t stop there. Names such as Erling Haaland and Julián Álvarez continue to circulate in transfer discussions. Haaland, who extended his deal with Manchester City until 2034, has previously expressed interest in playing in La Liga — keeping the possibility of future talks alive, despite the club’s financial constraints.

Álvarez’s situation, however, is more complicated. The Argentine forward, currently with Atlético Madrid, cost the club a substantial fee, and there are no signs they are open to negotiating his departure unless there is a drastic change in circumstances.

Ultimately, the central question remains: can Barcelona find the ideal successor to Lewandowski, or will they be forced to rely on their existing options amid ongoing market uncertainty and intense competition? As summer approaches, speculation continues to grow, leaving the future of Barcelona’s attacking line more uncertain than ever
