“Somehow…” – Paul Scholes drops an early hint about his prediction for Liverpool vs Manchester United clash

Paul Scholes Makes Honest Liverpool vs. Man United Prediction Ahead of Anfield Clash 🔴⚽

Paul Scholes has wasted little time in offering his thoughts ahead of Liverpool’s highly anticipated clash with Manchester United at Anfield, and Reds supporters will be hoping his gloomy prediction for the visitors proves correct.

Despite entering the October 19 fixture on the back of three straight defeats and several worrying displays, the Premier League champions still face a Manchester United side struggling for consistency. Ruben Amorim’s team only just broke into the top half of the table after narrowly beating Sunderland last weekend.

United’s away form has been especially poor — they’ve managed just one point on the road this season and haven’t won at Anfield in nearly a decade.

Scholes Fears the Worst for United at Anfield

Speaking on The Overlap Fan Debate, the 50-year-old club legend admitted he’s dreading the trip and would happily settle for a draw.

“Ruben Amorim needs to get something at Anfield,” Scholes said. “I’d be thinking about a draw — just finding a way to stop them scoring.
That’s a completely different mindset from teams like Arsenal, who go there thinking about the title. United are in such a rut. I can’t even remember the last time they won a big game — maybe City last year.
These players are so deep in a slump that it’s hard to believe they’ll turn it around. You almost expect them to go there and lose.”

Form Points to Liverpool — But History Warns Caution

Statistically, Arne Slot’s Liverpool are clear favourites. They’ve maintained a perfect home record this season, while United’s away struggles continue. Yet, recent history at Anfield has been unpredictable — the Red Devils earned draws on their last two visits, despite finishing well below Liverpool in both campaigns. Ironically, United even finished above the Reds in the season Klopp’s side thrashed them 7–0.

Still, Scholes’ comments underline just how far the balance of power has shifted in this historic rivalry. His willingness to settle for a draw shows the scale of United’s decline and Liverpool’s resurgence in recent years.

If Liverpool can finally deliver a complete 90-minute performance, they should have too much firepower for Amorim’s men — even if United showed brief signs of recovery against Sunderland.

After a frustrating run of defeats before the international break, a victory over their fiercest rivals could reignite belief and momentum around Anfield heading into the next phase of the season.
