Carragher Warns of “Crisis” at Liverpool After Fourth Straight League Defeat

Liverpool’s recent Premier League struggles have prompted strong criticism from club legend Jamie Carragher, who has identified a glaring weakness he believes is driving the team toward what he called “crisis territory.”

Following a 3–2 defeat to Brentford — Liverpool’s fourth consecutive league loss and their worst run since February 2021 — Carragher took aim at the team’s lack of physicality, describing it as a major concern that must be addressed immediately.

“I want to talk about the lack of physicality in this Liverpool squad,” the 47-year-old said on Sky Sports Premier League. “Conor Bradley, for example, gets too tight to his man because he doesn’t have full confidence in his physical strength. That’s why he ends up picking up so many yellow cards.”

Carragher stressed that the issue extends far beyond the young right-back, suggesting it’s a systemic problem across the team.

“Liverpool aren’t winning first challenges or second balls,” he continued. “I keep coming back to the same point — we’re not physically ready for the demands of the Premier League this season.”

Brentford once again exploited Liverpool’s weakness against direct play, with Dango Ouattara capitalizing on a long throw to open the scoring. Carragher pointed to a lack of “height and strength” in key defensive areas as a recurring vulnerability.

The defeat leaves Liverpool under intense scrutiny, with fans and pundits questioning how a team that looked dominant last season has fallen so sharply.

“Liverpool are in a crisis period right now,” Carragher warned. “Serious questions will be asked — of the players, the coaching staff, and those higher up — because given the level of investment this summer, performances like this simply aren’t good enough.”

Former striker John Aldridge echoed Carragher’s sentiments, expressing disappointment with the team’s lack of intensity and organization.

Despite goals from Milos Kerkez and Mohamed Salah, Liverpool’s defensive lapses proved costly once again, leaving the reigning champions in seventh place and in desperate need of a reset.

This is not the first time Carragher has sounded the alarm over Liverpool’s defensive structure this season — but after four straight defeats, his warnings are beginning to sound more urgent than ever.
