Keyrol Figueroa: The Next Rising Star From Liverpool’s Academy

Now, all eyes are on the next prospect emerging from Kirkby: Keyrol Figueroa.
Born in 2006, the Honduran-American forward is one of the most exciting talents in Liverpool’s youth setup. Renowned for his pace, technical ability, and instinctive finishing, Figueroa joined the club at U14 level and made his U18 debut at just 16 during the 2021/22 campaign. His rapid rise has reportedly caught the attention of first-team boss Arne Slot, who may soon give the youngster a taste of senior football.
Football runs deep in his blood. Keyrol is the son of Maynor Figueroa, a former Premier League stalwart best remembered for his extraordinary goal from his own half for Wigan Athletic against Stoke City — a strike still replayed in highlight reels today. Now 42, Maynor continues to play in England’s ninth tier with Wythenshawe FC, alongside former professionals like Danny Drinkwater and Emile Heskey. Yet it’s his son who’s now commanding attention, having once scored a staggering 90 goals in a single youth season.
Able to operate both centrally and on the right wing, Keyrol has already made his mark internationally. Representing the USA U17s at the CONCACAF U17 Championship in Mexico, he struck seven goals in seven matches, helping his team finish runners-up to the hosts.
This season, his form in Premier League 2 has been outstanding — five goals in seven games — fueling speculation that a senior call-up could be on the horizon.
Born in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, Figueroa grew up studying some of football’s deadliest strikers.
“When I was younger, I watched Drogba, Aguero, Suarez, and even Torres when he was at Atletico,” he once said. “I tried to shape my game around them.”
His quality shone brightly in a recent 4-1 Merseyside derby win over Everton, where he netted a memorable hat-trick for Liverpool’s U21s. Reflecting on that performance, Figueroa shared:
“It means a lot, especially after the setbacks — injuries, limited minutes. I just kept believing and working hard. Scoring against Everton is special, but it’s all about the team.”
Breaking into Liverpool’s senior squad is one of the toughest challenges in football, but Keyrol Figueroa is showing all the traits of a future star. Whether his breakthrough comes this season or next, one thing seems certain — his name is destined to echo through Anfield for years to come.
