Arne Slot Slammed For ‘Shameless’ Comment After 3-0 Defeat vs Crystal Palace

Arne Slot Branded ‘Shameless’ After Post-Match Comments Following Liverpool’s 3–0 Carabao Cup Defeat to Crystal Palace

Arne Slot is facing heavy criticism for his post-match remarks after Liverpool’s 3–0 loss to Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup — the club’s sixth defeat in seven matches.

Goals from Ismaila Sarr and Yeremy Pino sealed a dominant win for Palace at Anfield, their third consecutive victory over Liverpool this season.

Slot’s pre-match decisions had already raised eyebrows, as he named three teenagers in the starting XI and another five on the bench, making ten changes from the side that lost 3–2 to Brentford at the weekend.

Following the defeat, the Dutchman defended his team selection by highlighting Liverpool’s lack of squad depth compared to Manchester City and Chelsea — a comment that did not go down well among fans or pundits.

Slot’s Comments Spark Backlash

In his post-match interview, Slot pointed out that Liverpool’s rivals fielded stronger line-ups in their Carabao Cup fixtures, implying that his options were limited.

However, many in the football world were unimpressed, accusing the 45-year-old of making excuses after another poor performance marked by defensive errors and a lack of attacking intent.

Journalist Luke Edwards was among those who criticised the manager, writing:

“Broke the British transfer record twice in one summer. Spent £450 million to improve a squad that had just won the league. A squad he inherited. He’s starting to sound a little desperate. Six defeats in seven games…”

Fans on social media echoed that sentiment. One user on X (formerly Twitter) wrote:

“Not great from Slot. After spending hundreds of millions on Ekitike, Isak, and others, there’s no excuse to be this bad. You can’t talk about depth after that kind of summer.”

Another added:

“How can you spend £600 million on new players and still complain about your squad? Absolutely shameless.”

Others were more blunt, commenting simply:

“He’s lost the plot.”
“His mind’s gone.”

Tough Road Ahead for Liverpool

Liverpool’s dismal October has seen them win just once in all competitions, and the pressure on Slot continues to mount.

The Reds face a gruelling run of fixtures that could define their season — starting with Aston Villa at Anfield on Saturday, followed by a Champions League clash with Real Madrid on Tuesday, before a daunting trip to Manchester City on November 9.

Slot’s future isn’t believed to be in immediate danger, but another string of poor results could test the Liverpool hierarchy’s patience — and fan sentiment appears to be turning fast.
