Liverpool Make Arne Slot Sack Decision After Disastrous Crystal Palace Defeat

Liverpool Board Make Decision on Arne Slot After Carabao Cup Exit

Liverpoolโ€™s hierarchy have reportedly reached a decision on Arne Slotโ€™s future following their 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup fourth round at Anfield.

A heavily rotated Liverpool side, featuring debutants Freddie Woodman and Kieran Morrison, suffered yet another setback under Slot, losing to Oliver Glasnerโ€™s Palace for the third time this season โ€” following previous defeats in the Community Shield and Premier League.

Two first-half goals from Ismaila Sarr left the Reds reeling, and their night went from bad to worse when 18-year-old defender Amara Nallo โ€” making only his second senior appearance โ€” was sent off in the 79th minute, his second red card in as many games. Palaceโ€™s Yeremy Pino sealed the result with a late third goal amid driving rain at Anfield.

The loss marked Liverpoolโ€™s sixth defeat in their last seven matches, their only win in that run coming in a 5-1 Champions League victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Despite the alarming dip in form, transfer insider Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Liverpoolโ€™s owners remain fully supportive of Slot.

โ€œLiverpool absolutely internally โ€” and when I say internally, I mean the hierarchy, the ownership, and everyone running the club โ€” really trust Arne Slot,โ€ Romano said on his YouTube channel.
โ€œThey are 100 percent convinced that Arne Slot is the best manager to handle this situation.
โ€œObviously, itโ€™s been a poor start, but Liverpool believe everything will be okay. Theyโ€™re confident he just needs time to evaluate the squad, work with the new signings, and restore last seasonโ€™s mentality. Thereโ€™s very good communication on a daily basis between Slot and the board.โ€

Slot, who led Liverpool to the Premier League title last season, made ten changes for the Palace clash โ€” explaining that the rotation was designed to โ€œcreate a pathwayโ€ for young players while managing several injuries within the squad.

However, the decision backfired as Liverpool again struggled to find rhythm or threat in attack, and pressure is now building ahead of a tough run of fixtures.

The Reds next face Aston Villa at Anfield on Saturday, followed by Real Madrid in the Champions League on Tuesday, and a trip to Manchester City just five days later.

Chiesa Impresses Despite Defeat

While the result was disappointing, fans found one silver lining in the performance of Federico Chiesa. The Italian winger, who joined from Juventus in 2024, was widely praised on social media for his energy and determination.

โ€œAnd the boss wonโ€™t start him after this beautiful performance so far,โ€ one fan wrote.
Another added: โ€œChiesa is on a mission to win this game on his own. What a player.โ€

Chiesa, 28, featured only six times in Liverpoolโ€™s title-winning campaign last year but has been eager to prove his worth this season. Speaking earlier this week, he admitted he โ€œwasnโ€™t fit enough or mentally readyโ€ last term but is now focused on โ€œplaying well and impressing Slot.โ€

Whatโ€™s Next for Slot and Liverpool?

Despite growing fan frustration and a worrying string of results, Liverpoolโ€™s ownership group, Fenway Sports Group, appear determined to give Slot time to turn things around.

With a daunting fixture list ahead and morale low, the coming weeks could prove decisive โ€” both for Slotโ€™s project and for Liverpoolโ€™s season.
