A former Liverpool player who once had a well-known falling-out with Steven Gerrard is now reportedly at risk of receiving a prison sentence.
During their years together at Anfield, Gerrard and Jamie Carragher were dominant voices in the dressing room, both demanding high standards from every teammate. Gerrard has often spoken about how closely he watched new signings in training, praising players like Xabi Alonso and Luis Suárez for immediately showing their quality.
But one arrival he openly admitted he never warmed to was El Hadji Diouf. The Senegalese forward joined Liverpool from Lens for £10 million in 2002 after an impressive World Cup, yet he failed to live up to expectations on or off the pitch. His attitude and performances frustrated many at the club, prompting Gerrard to describe him as “top of the list of Liverpool signings I liked least” in his 2015 autobiography.
“He wasn’t interested in football or in the club, and he had no respect for the supporters,” Gerrard wrote. “He was all about himself — plenty of flash, but nothing to back it up.”
