Arne Slot has delivered a mixed but mostly encouraging injury update ahead of Liverpool’s vital Premier League showdown with Manchester City this weekend.
The Liverpool manager revealed that Alexander Isak is expected to rejoin full training on Friday after spending three weeks on the sidelines. However, he warned fans not to expect the striker to return at peak level right away.
“He’ll be back training with the squad today after being out for three weeks,” Slot said during his pre-match press conference. “Our medical staff has done an outstanding job, but rehab is never the same as real match fitness. He’ll need some time before he’s fully up to speed.”
Isak has missed Liverpool’s previous four matches due to a muscle injury suffered in late October. In his absence, Hugo Ekitike has stepped up impressively as the team’s central forward, earning strong praise for his displays. Slot suggested that Isak will have to regain rhythm and sharpness before pushing his way back into the starting XI, aligning with recent comments from Roy Keane, Ian Wright, and Gary Neville, who all expect the Swedish striker to shine once he’s back in form.
