Scott McTominay Demands Napoli Sign Former Man Utd Teammate ‘Unhappy’ at Club

Former Manchester United star Scott McTominay has urged his Napoli boss Antonio Conte to sign his former teammate this January.

Scott McTominay has become a standout figure in Italian football since leaving Old Trafford permanently last season.

In his first year at Napoli, the Scotland international scored 12 goals, won the Serie A title, collected the club’s Player of the Year award, and finished inside the top 20 in the 2025 Ballon d’Or rankings.

Naples has quickly become a popular destination for former Manchester-based players, with Kevin De Bruyne and Rasmus Højlund both joining the Scudetto winners last summer.

Now, according to a report from The Sun, another move could be on the horizon, as McTominay is said to be urging Napoli to sign one of his former Manchester United teammates.

The source explained: “Scott has spoken to Conte and told him to go and get Kobbie.

“He’s told him all about his qualities and what a fantastic player he is,” the source continued.

McTominay knows Mainoo well from their time together at United and believes he would be a perfect addition to the Napoli squad, whether on loan or a permanent deal.

“He’d slot right in and give Napoli a real lift,” the source added.

Kobbie Mainoo’s future has been a major talking point recently, particularly after he requested a loan move near the end of the summer window—an appeal that Ruben Amorim rejected.

The 20-year-old has yet to start a Premier League match this season and hasn’t featured for England since September 2024, despite starting the Euro 2024 final.

Ruben Amorim’s position on Mainoo

Despite the lack of minutes, Amorim insists Mainoo still plays an important role in his plans, a point he reiterated before the Manchester derby.

“I believe in Kobbie a lot, but some of you already think he’s a finished article. I think he has so much more to give. He can improve in many areas,” he told reporters.

The United manager suggested that the midfielder’s challenges stem largely from understanding exactly what is required of him within the team.

“Kobbie can operate as a No.6, but at times he releases the ball and drifts away, and that’s not what you want from someone in that role,” he said.

“He needs to play with better rhythm — to understand when to slow things down and when to speed them up. He needs more intensity and a deeper grasp of the position. Those are areas where he can still grow.”
