Liverpool have contacted referees’ chief Howard Webb to raise serious concerns about Virgil van Dijk’s disallowed goal in Sunday’s 3-0 defeat to Manchester City. Liverpool have told Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) that they do not accept that the decision was arrived at for subjective reasons. They believe that the wording of the law is clear and that no elements of the criteria needed to disallow the goal were met so it should have been allowed to stand.

Liverpool have formally reached out to refereeing chief Howard Webb to express deep concern over the decision to rule out Virgil van Dijk’s goal during their 3–0 loss to Manchester City on Sunday.

The club has informed the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) that they reject the explanation that the disallowance was based on subjective interpretation.

Liverpool insist that the laws of the game are explicit, and that none of the conditions required to overturn the goal were present — meaning, in their view, the goal should have been awarded.
