Liverpool injury update: Alexander Isak, Alisson Becker and Jeremie Frimpong latest news and return dates

Liverpool Injury Update: Isak, Alisson, Frimpong and Leoni Recovery Progress

Liverpool are beginning to see light at the end of their injury tunnel, with several key players nearing a return after a difficult run of results.

The Reds suffered a 3–0 defeat to Manchester City on Sunday — another setback in their faltering title defence — but there is optimism that their injury list will soon ease. Alexander Isak has already returned to the matchday squad, while Alisson Becker and Jeremie Frimpong are not far behind.

For manager Arne Slot, the improving fitness situation comes as welcome relief ahead of the November international break.

Alexander Isak

Alexander Isak was included in the squad at the Etihad Stadium but remained an unused substitute despite Liverpool’s need for a goal.

The striker recently recovered from a groin injury and only resumed full training on Friday, leaving him short of match fitness.

Before the weekend, Slot explained:

“He trained with the team for the first time today after being out for three weeks. Rehab work can’t fully replicate playing or training intensity, so he still needs some time.”

Expected return date: Nottingham Forest (H) – Saturday, November 22, 2025

Alisson Becker

Liverpool’s first-choice goalkeeper is also close to returning after several weeks out with a thigh injury.

Stand-in Giorgi Mamardashvili has performed admirably in his absence — even saving a penalty from Erling Haaland on Sunday — but Alisson’s comeback will provide a major boost for the Reds.

Slot confirmed on Friday:

“Alisson will definitely be back after the international break… we expect this.”

Expected return date: Nottingham Forest (H) – Saturday, November 22, 2025

Jeremie Frimpong

Jeremie Frimpong is slightly behind Alisson in his recovery but progressing well from his second hamstring injury of the season, sustained last month against Frankfurt. Initially ruled out for six weeks, the Dutch full-back is recovering faster than expected.

Slot revealed:

“I expect Jeremie to return after the international break as well, though he might not be fully fit to face Nottingham Forest.”

Expected return date: West Ham (A) – Sunday, November 30, 2025

Giovanni Leoni

Teenage defender Giovanni Leoni suffered an ACL injury on his debut against Southampton in September. The 18-year-old impressed in his brief appearance before being stretchered off and has since undergone surgery.

Slot commented:

“It’s a tough situation for him. He tore his ACL, which means he’ll be out for around a year.”

Expected return date: Late 2026

Liverpool’s injury situation is finally beginning to improve, offering hope for a stronger, more complete squad once domestic football resumes after the international break.
