Man Utd Preparing Bid to Bring Scott McTominay Back
Manchester United are reportedly preparing an “emotion-filled” proposal to bring Scott McTominay back to Old Trafford after his impressive breakout season at Napoli.
As reported by journalist Mark Brus of Caught Offside, United have shown “genuine interest” and are seriously considering an unexpected move to re-sign the Scottish midfielder. The club now appears ready to reverse what they see as a mistake — selling McTominay to Napoli for roughly £25 million in August 2024.
The sale was approved by former manager Erik ten Hag, who was later dismissed and replaced by Ruben Amorim. Ironically, McTominay flourished immediately in Italy, becoming a major contributor in Antonio Conte’s title-winning Napoli squad, a development that has caused embarrassment within the United hierarchy.
McTominay’s progress in Serie A has been outstanding. In his debut season, he recorded 12 goals and 4 assists across 34 league games. Although his current campaign has been slightly quieter — with 2 goals and 1 assist in 10 matches — he remains a vital figure for Napoli.
Interest in McTominay isn’t limited to United. Newcastle, Tottenham, and even Barcelona have all been monitoring him. However, any transfer is expected to be extremely challenging, as the midfielder is reportedly “very happy” in Italy, and Napoli have “no intention whatsoever” of selling him.
Journalist Vincenzo Credendino explained that Conte transformed McTominay’s role — shifting him from a creative midfielder into an aggressive box-runner, fully exploiting his timing and goal-scoring instincts, similar to how Arturo Vidal or Claudio Marchisio were used at Juventus.
McTominay himself has expressed his affection for Napoli, its supporters, and his teammates, saying he has no regrets about making the move.
