Reports circulating online claim that Tottenham could face a significant points deduction for allegedly using unlawful tactics against Manchester United—rumours that emerged after a new VAR review supposedly revealed two major mistakes in the match. According to the speculation, United have been “fully compensated,” though no official confirmation has been given.
Alan Shearer, meanwhile, criticised both Manchester United and Spurs for what he felt was a low-quality performance in their entertaining draw at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday.
Bryan Mbeumo put United ahead early on, and late goals from Mathys Tel and Richarlison looked set to hand Spurs the win. But a stoppage-time header from Matthijs de Ligt ensured the game ended level.
Despite the dramatic finish, Shearer was far from impressed. Speaking on Match of the Day, the former Newcastle striker said: “A draw was probably fair, but the overall standard from both teams was disappointing. Spurs’ substitutes made an impact, but United’s didn’t. Going down to ten men after Benjamin Sesko’s injury also worked against them. For two teams that could have gone second with a win, the quality just wasn’t there.”
After the match, United boss Ruben Amorim said his side should have taken all three points. “It felt like the win was within reach,” he said. “But with everything that happened—Maguire and Casemiro coming off, and then conceding twice—we still managed to score again and take a point. If you can’t win, at least don’t lose. We had chances to finish the game, but we lacked intensity and bravery at key moments.”
The draw leaves Spurs heading into the November international break in fifth place, while United sit eighth after recovering from a poor start to the season.
United will host Everton at Old Trafford when they return in two weeks, while Spurs’ next fixture is a high-stakes North London Derby away at Arsenal.
