Only way’ Liverpool can sign Salah replacement in ‘record offensive’ revealed amid €200m offer claim

Mohamed Salah cuts a visibly frustrated figure during a recent Premier League outing.

Liverpool have now been warned that there is essentially only one scenario in which they could convince Bayern Munich to part ways with rising star Michael Olise as a potential long-term successor to Salah.

The Reds were Europe’s biggest spenders in the summer window, pouring over £400 million into a sweeping squad rebuild. After cruising to their 20th Premier League title last season, Liverpool felt the moment had come to future-proof the squad, breaking the British transfer record twice to bring in Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz.

They also spent big to secure Hugo Ekitike, Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez and Giovanni Leoni, though they failed in a late push for Crystal Palace and England defender Marc Guehi.

These new arrivals were meant to cover the departures of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Darwin Núñez, Luis Díaz, Harvey Elliott and Jarell Quansah, yet Arne Slot’s revamped side have made an abysmal start to the current campaign.

Liverpool have lost seven of their last ten games in all competitions, tumbling from top spot down to eighth in the Premier League, with several key players badly out of form.

Because of this slump, Liverpool are expected to dip into the market again in 2026 — and one of their top priorities will be finding Salah’s long-term replacement.

A recent report suggested Liverpool were preparing an enormous offer — a €200 million “record offensive” — to sign Bayern star Michael Olise. However, journalist Dean Jones has told TEAMtalk that such a transfer is highly improbable.

“He’s not a realistic target. I don’t see any situation in which Bayern decide to sell him,” Jones explained.

“The only way it becomes possible is if Olise himself was unhappy and pushing for the move — and that’s absolutely not the case. He’s thriving in Munich and loving the challenge from everything I’ve heard.”

Liverpool are also expected to prioritize a new centre-back, and their interest in Marc Guehi remains strong. Former Premier League CEO Keith Wyness claims that the Crystal Palace defender is keen on the switch.

“From what I know, he’d like to join Liverpool. But there will be a bidding war for him. He’ll be one of the most sought-after players in January,” Wyness told Football Insider.

“Liverpool are basically saying: lower the demands and we’ll get the deal done. They’re still very interested — he’s a top player, even if he’s injured right now.

“But Real Madrid haven’t walked away either. They’re still very much in the race.”

Where will Liverpool finish in the league this season?
