Simon Jordan claims Antoine Semenyo’s proposed move to Liverpool is far from a straightforward “done deal,” despite the existence of a £65 million release clause.
Liverpool is among several clubs monitoring Semenyo as the January transfer window nears, but Jordan argues that signing the Bournemouth forward may be more complicated than simply activating his clause.
Semenyo has started the 2025–26 season impressively, recording six goals and three assists in 11 Premier League games. The Ghanaian attacker drew interest from Manchester United and Tottenham in the summer but chose to extend his stay at Bournemouth. Even so, it has since been revealed that a £65 million release clause will be active in January.
The 25-year-old is being tracked by Liverpool—who may view him as a long-term successor to Mo Salah—while United, Tottenham, Arsenal, and Manchester City are also believed to be interested.
What Jordan said
Speaking on talkSPORT, Jordan warned that Liverpool shouldn’t assume the deal is simple just because the clause exists.
He noted that Semenyo once spent eight weeks on trial at Crystal Palace but wasn’t signed, and added that release clauses often come with strict payment terms or extra conditions—especially for top-six clubs—that could complicate matters.
Jordan pointed out that Liverpool’s significant spending—around £400–500 million recently—means they must consider their Premier League profit and sustainability (PSR) position before making another major move.
Although the club offset much of their £450 million summer outlay through sales such as Luis Díaz, Darwin Núñez, and Jarell Quansah, Jordan suggested a January transfer might still be difficult. He also mentioned that Graeme Souness is a longtime admirer of Semenyo, calling the forward an outstanding player.
