And the Winner of the 2024 Ballon d’Or Isn’t Vinicius or Lewandowski – The Winner is in the Premier League!

Rodri Wins Ballon d’Or, Surpassing Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr.

In a glamorous ceremony in Paris, Manchester City’s star midfielder Rodri took home the 2024 Ballon d’Or, surpassing Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr. for the sport’s top individual honor.

Rodri’s outstanding year, highlighted by victories in the Premier League, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, and Euro 2024 with Spain, positioned him as the top contender. His main competitor, Vinicius Jr., had gained significant attention leading up to the ceremony but decided not to attend after learning he wouldn’t win. Jude Bellingham, another nominee and Vinicius’ teammate, was also notably missing.

Rodri’s victory makes him the first midfielder to win the Ballon d’Or since Luka Modric in 2018 and the first Premier League player to do so since Cristiano Ronaldo in 2008. Unfortunately, a recent ACL injury has sidelined him for the season, leaving Manchester City feeling his absence as they face defensive challenges without his presence in midfield.

Next, Manchester City will take on Tottenham in the Carabao Cup Round of 16, aiming to demonstrate their resilience in the absence of their newly crowned Ballon d’Or winner.
