Mikel Arteta has faced a significant setback as close associate and Arsenal director Edu Gaspar is reportedly planning to leave the club. The respected sporting director has been instrumental in changing Arsenal from previous title contenders to serious challengers.
However, according to the *Mail*, Edu’s time at the Emirates seems to be ending. Sources indicate he has been in talks with club executives following a restructuring of key roles.
Although his reasons are not yet known, Edu is reportedly set to resign from his position. A former two-time title winner and member of Arsenal’s Invincibles, he returned to the club in 2019 and worked alongside Arteta to reshape the squad, letting go of high-profile players like Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Mesut Ozil. Under his guidance, the club also brought in new fan favorites, including Martin Ødegaard, William Saliba, and Declan Rice.
As a result, Arsenal finished as runners-up to Manchester City in the Premier League for the past two seasons. Edu’s departure comes on the heels of a recent 1-0 defeat to Newcastle, with Arsenal’s next match being a Champions League game against Inter Milan on Wednesday. Manager Arteta is expected to discuss Edu’s departure in tomorrow’s press conference.
