Neither Leao nor Nico Williams… Flick surprises Laporta and chooses a talented player to strengthen the wing position at Barcelona

Barcelona are looking to bolster their squad in the upcoming transfer window. Despite their strong performances under coach Hansi Flick, the club is keen to further improve by acquiring some of the best players available. Currently, Barcelona leads La Liga with 33 points, nine ahead of second-placed Real Madrid, though Madrid still has a game in hand.

Previously, Rafael Leão and Nico Williams were seen as top candidates to reinforce Barcelona’s wing positions. However, it now appears that Flick has shifted focus to a new target: Khvicha Kvaratskhelia. The Georgian winger, playing for Napoli, has caught the attention of Barcelona after rediscovering his top form in Serie A under coach Antonio Conte.

Kvaratskhelia’s contract situation, coupled with Napoli’s failure to secure a renewal agreement, has made him an attractive option for Barcelona. His exceptional performances, coupled with his skill set—speed, dribbling, and playmaking ability—have made him one of Europe’s most sought-after players. Flick believes his style would complement Barcelona’s tactical approach.

While Leão had been the preferred choice after a falling out with Milan’s coach, and Williams had also been a target after summer discussions, Flick is now prioritizing Kvaratskhelia. At 23, Kvaratskhelia represents a promising long-term investment, something Barcelona president Joan Laporta is keen to pursue. Flick sees this as a rare opportunity to sign a player of Kvaratskhelia’s caliber at a reasonable price, making it an opportunity Barcelona cannot afford to miss.
