Antony has emerged as a shock target for a club this summer amid intense transfer speculation.
Antony has been rumored to be leaving Manchester United following a disappointing period at Old Trafford since his substantial £86 million transfer in the summer of 2022. He faced challenges securing a regular spot in the starting lineup last season, despite making 44 appearances across all competitions during his first year with the Red Devils.
A potential transfer has been suggested, with Football Insider reporting that Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al Nassr have expressed interest in acquiring Antony before the summer transfer deadline.
Al Nassr have turned their focus to Antony after failing to reach an agreement with Barcelona for Raphinha. The Saudi Pro League team is looking to add a winger this summer, and Manchester United is believed to be open to selling the 24-year-old. However, the club is likely to incur a loss on any sale. Additionally, the report mentions that Manchester United is willing to allow Antony to leave on loan if his reported £100,000-a-week salary is covered.
Although Antony scored on his debut against Arsenal, he has generally underperformed at Manchester United since his transfer from Ajax. He has netted only 11 goals in 82 appearances across all competitions.
Last month, Erik ten Hag expressed his confidence in Antony’s potential to succeed at the club.
He said, “I don’t deal with the budget. I’ve never had to manage it. At United, the responsibility for budgets falls to the owners and management.”
He definitely demonstrated his potential in the first month by scoring three goals in his first three games. However, things became more challenging afterward, and last season was disappointing. Nevertheless, I remain confident that he has the ability to succeed at this club.
