Liverpool may have already completed their first summer signing, according to a playful online update! With the Reds currently seeking a defensive midfielder, Steve Kay revealed on The Transfer Exchange Show on KS1 TV that Richard Hughes is targeting Porto’s Alan Varela.
Someone either very excited about the potential transfer or looking to stir up online rumors has updated the 23-year-old’s Wikipedia page to show that the Argentine is now a Liverpool player.
The first sentence of his Wikipedia entry was changed to: “Alan Gonzalo Varela (born July 4, 2001) is an Argentine professional footballer who plays as a defensive or central midfielder for Premier League club Liverpool FC.” Additionally, the information box on his profile was updated to list Liverpool FC as his “current team.”
It’s likely that Wikipedia’s administrators will soon correct the entry to reflect that he is still a Porto player. Nevertheless, this incident highlights the eagerness of some Liverpool fans for new signings this month!
