Newly appointed Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim is setting ambitious goals for the team, especially focusing on young talents as he begins his tenure on a contract running until 2027.
Amorim, 39, recently took over as Manchester United’s manager after joining from Sporting CP, following Erik ten Hag’s departure last month. After wrapping up his duties in Portugal, he arrived at Carrington on Monday, where he met with several players not on international duty.
His first match in charge is scheduled for November 24 against Ipswich Town at Portman Road. With United sitting 13th in the Premier League, both fans and analysts are eager to see how Amorim will address the team’s challenges.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Amorim is particularly excited about working with young defender Leny Yoro, whom he considers a “generational talent,” a view shared by the club’s management.
Yoro, a 19-year-old center-back signed from Lille for £52 million on a five-year deal, is nearing a return from a pre-season metatarsal injury. Amorim sees him as “one of the most interesting players to develop” and is expected to play a significant role in nurturing the youngster’s growth as he regains full fitness.
Additionally, *The Sun* reports that Amorim has high expectations for Mason Mount, whom United signed from Chelsea for £55 million.
Despite Mount’s struggles with injuries and inconsistent form at United, Amorim values his versatility and is keen to integrate him into the squad, viewing him as a key figure in his tactical plans as the team aims to improve its position in the league.
Alejandro Garnacho is being tipped for “superstar” status in world football, with former Manchester United midfielder Nicky Butt suggesting that a future move to La Liga giants Barcelona or Real Madrid could elevate his career even further.
The 21-year-old Argentine winger has quickly become one of Manchester United’s most promising talents since joining from Atletico Madrid’s youth ranks in 2020. With 22 goals in 104 appearances across all competitions, Garnacho has already made a significant impact, and this season, he’s continued his strong form, scoring seven goals and providing four assists in just 18 games.
Garnacho’s rise to the first team has been swift. After impressing with the Under-21s, he earned a senior squad spot and made his debut in a 1-1 draw with Chelsea during the 2021/22 season. A year later, he scored his first goal for United in the Europa League against Real Sociedad, solidifying his reputation as one of Europe’s most exciting young talents.
Despite his growing influence at United, Butt believes Garnacho’s full potential could be realized with a move to one of Spain’s elite clubs. Speaking on *Football’s Greatest Podcast*, Butt explained, “The Premier League is the best league in the world, but all the best players often leave for Spain—Real Madrid or Barcelona. Those clubs elevate players to superstar status, not only on the pitch but globally.”
Butt acknowledged that while Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in the world, a move to Spain is often seen as an opportunity for players to reach new heights in their careers, citing players like Kylian Mbappe, now a Ballon d’Or contender at Real Madrid.
“Garnacho is doing well at United now, but if he keeps developing, it’s easy to see him being drawn to the appeal of Real Madrid or Barcelona,” Butt added.
As Garnacho continues to impress under United’s new manager, Ruben Amorim, the possibility of a move to one of Spain’s top clubs in the future remains real. For now, however, Garnacho’s focus will likely stay on achieving success at Old Trafford, with his growing stature and potential setting him on the path to join the world’s football elite.
